Word Quiz

Word Quiz is a simple flashcard guessing game developed to help teach babies, toddlers and young children to sight read. Word Quiz is not a game for children to play by themselves. It is a tool to help you while you interactively teach your children to read. Random sets of cards are created based on your preferences. You select a card and ask your child to try and find the card with the selected word.

Manual Mode

In the manual mode, multiple flashcards are randomly selected from the configured word lists, and displayed on the screen. You select the word you want your child to find and then ask him/her to find it. Your child can then choose the card they think matches the word you have selected.

Automated Quiz Mode

In the automated quiz mode, the app will randomly select a word from the displayed flashcards and ask your child to find it.

Numbers

Since the content of the word lists is fully configurable, it is also possible to add number lists, making this a useful tool to help teach your children to count.

Difficulty

You can configure the number of cards that are presented to your child, thereby increasing or decreasing the level of difficulty.

Flashcard Preferences

There are preferences to select the font, size, colour and capitalisation of the flashcards.

Other Preferences

The default preferences will work well out of the box. However, if you would like to customize the flashcards there are many options to choose from, including the automated quiz mode and the sound effects that are used. Even the questions that are asked can be configured.

Configurable Fonts

The app supports several child-friendly fonts. By default, words are shown using a randomly selected font, but the app is also configurable to be able to select whichever one you prefer.

Word Lists

The app includes all Dolch sight reading lists, but you can easily create your own lists of words to match your child's current level. You can even enter names, numbers or words in different languages.
